Supper
My coworker Eugen invited me over for dinner yesterday. It was a welcomed surprise, namely because:
a) I was still missing my mom
b) I still haven't had time to get groceries
c) Free food and no dishes to clean? Need I say more?
We started off with vegetable and bean soup. Beans are probably my #1 most hated food, but the soup was delicious and the beans were actually very good in it. Luckily, they were soft and could be swallowed without chewing.
And no, Mom, this doesn't mean I'm going to start eating beans now.
Then we had potato salad. Probably the best potato salad I've ever eaten. Basically cut up potatoes, fried onions, probably loads of butter and some boiled eggs. Very very good.
And again, this doesn't mean I'm going to start eating potato salad now either.
There were also sausages and the best bread I've eaten since coming to Romania. Like challah or something.
For dessert, Eugen brought out some Turkish cotton candy he got in Avanos. He asked if I liked cotton candy and I said yes, thinking of the pink stuff on sticks we get at carnivals. This stuff was white and came in a box.
It honestly looked like like white, fuzzy material. Eugen picked a handfull off the "log" and it came off in long strings. He jokingly put some on his chin like a beard. It wasn't exactly like our cotton candy, but so much better. This was flavoured with vanilla and pistacchios. I couldn't stop playing with it. It was silky and soft and delicious.
He also gave me some take-home work to do. He's helping create a reference manual for youth projects and youth workers and he asked me to help edit his contribution. So I have 25 pages to read and condense before tomorrow. The coolest part is that my name is going to be on the list of help. This booklet will be distributed by the Council of Europe and then made available on-line. I'll be famous!
