Night club
Adrian called me at 10:00 pm and asked if I'd like to join him and a few friends for a drink in town. I was almost asleep but I was up for some action so I got a cab to downtown.
He met me in front of the bar. He didn't tell me it was a biker bar! It was in a cavelike basement. Guns 'N Roses was playing on the sound system. Guys and girls were sitting on couches wearing Marilyn Manson and Slipknot shirts. I was the only one wearing colour (shocking, I know, for the people who know me!) and probably the only one without a tattoo.
His friends were very nice. Tabitha is studying International Relations and Mishi is a grade five teacher. They both spoke good English but Adrian was great translating all the little inside jokes.
We had a few drinks and a few laughs. Then we went to a night club.
In Romania, "night club" is often synonymous with "strip club". We went to a little underground (translation: illegal) place not far from my neighbourhood. Places like these are disguised as bars so they don't have to pay extra taxes. This one was quite classy. Low lighting, classy girls in skimpy outfits twirling around a pole and really good music. We had a few more drinks and then a group of middle aged men came in celebrating someone's birthday. I'm sorry, but people over the age of five should not be wearing party hats. Ever. It kind of killed the mood so we went downtown again.
We ended up at the Complex (the student centre). We found a bar called "Happy" that had a small dance floor. I dragged everyone over to start dancing. Eventually, we were the only four left in the building. In Canada, they kick you out when they close. In Romania, they can't close until the last patrons leave.
It was hillairous watching an elementary school teacher climb up on a platform and start dancing. I got up on the platform to dance with him.
Then they played a couple of slow early 90s song. I love Romanian music taste! Adrian twirled me around to George Michael's "Father Figure".
Adrian wanted to go clubbing in Arad. Arad is 90 km away! Tabitha and I wanted to save Arad for this weekend and since we were exhausted, we got a cab home.
For all I know, Adrian and Mishi could still be in Arad now.
