Novi Sad
It was raining on Sunday so Srdjan and I decided not to spend four hours in a bus to see the monasteries. We went instead to Novi Sad, a city an hour north of Belgrade.
We had a great time!
After getting off the bus, we immediately got some burec. I was in heaven! I even got my picture taken beside the burec sign.
By now, the rain had stopped and it was turning into a nice day. We spent the rest of the day wandering around the town taking pictures. We crossed the Danube river and I stood in the exact middle of the bridge.
I can't describe the feeling of knowing *exactly* where you are. You can find the river and bridge on any map of Serbia.
We walked up to see the fortress. Pretty impressive. The winds reminded me of Avignon's mistrales. I thought I was going to blow away! We went around back and found the remains of an ancient abbey. We also saw a hole with a family of puppies inside.
We came back and took more pictures. The synagogue. The church. A pub called Martha's with a sign saying "God Save the Pumpkins!". It made us both giggle. We went for tea in an old tram converted into a cafe. Novi Sad has tonnes of gelatto shops and I drooled every time I walked by. So of course, we had to get gelatto.
Coming back, we were hungry again, so I got more burec, while Srdjan got the largest sub sandwhich I had ever seen. Think of the Simpsons episode where Homer eats the giant hogie. This was the same thing.
Belgrade at night is beautiful all light up. We went for a walk down the main pedestrian street. It's so European! Then we went for drinks at this nice pub with the first real toilet I had seen all day.
Afterwards, we went to visit Jane and we had a nice chat. I'm really missing the female communication in Timisoara. And the English magazine her mom brought her. I was sad we couldn't spend more time together but it's only November!
