Advice
This is sort of urgent, so please help.
I have plane tickets booked home to Canada on August 12th.
I now have a job in Romania, working for my beloved friend Cristi. Proof-reading, copy-writing, bits of marketing, etc etc. Basically, he's milking my skills (skillz) as a native English speaker for all their worth, and I'm more than happy to be taken advantage of.
Ok, that's a lie. We've got a sort of partnership going. I'm taking care of all the English-language stuff, and I'm being rewarded with a steady paycheck. I guess a degree in International Relations, focusing on technology and society, will get you something, somewhere...
Anyways, we're just starting out. We don't know how successful we'll be, but we're pretty hopeful.
So...my dilema (yes, this post sucks because it's 8:40 pm on a Friday night):
I have tickets home on the 12th of August. When I was in Turkey, I stayed at the formidable Jimmy's Place. I got along well with the management and they told me if I wanted to come work for them this summer, I was more than welcome.
Cristi doesn't know how much work he'll have for me after the bulk of the English publicity is written. He said he'll always find work for me to do, and we brainstormed some ideas that I'm excited about. I can do beta-testing, research Romanian business trends, etc etc. I hate being idle and I don't want to earn money for doing nothing.
However, working in Turkey would be great too. I adored the staff, I'd be in Turkey, and I'd get to experience the tourism sector, which I've always wanted to work in. However, I'd be doing waitressing and reception, which I had no experience in. Plus, I'd receive free room and board, but no pay.
So what do I do?
I can continue working for Cristi from home, or I can come back to Romania. I like my life here. I like the slower pace of life. I like the lady with the gold teeth who sells the best chicken burgers I've ever tasted out of a little stall at the market. I like Cristi, his girlfriend, her sister, Nelu, Krisz, Cipri. Sure, I wobn't earn as much as I can in Canada, but I would rather save 100 euros and be happy than work in a call centre and save 500 euros a month.
Do I go to Turkey? As Cristi said, it's better to work for a month and take a week's vacation, then to work for a month as a vacation. We've talked about doing a group trip to somewhere, and I suggested Turkey.
Do I go to Turkey for a month to work for free? Do I stay in Romania? Do I come back to Romania? I'm 24, and years of watching commercials on Fox Rochester have told me I "need a career". I'm pretty jaded with the whole NGO thing after seeing some of the going-ons of my peers. However, I have my degree and I want to use it. I want to get investors to Romania. I love living here, perhaps even more so than Sweden and France, though I'm struggling with the language (just ask me to pronounce lamaie).
Anyways, thoughts please?

well, i shouldn't give advice, because i'm clearly in favor of romania. and just say 'lemon'. they'll understand.
seriously, though, if it's just for a month and you're thinking long term, you might want to go with whichever looks best on your resume. whichever you decide will be the right decision, though. how's that?
Well, now I know why all the waitresses gave me dubious expressions when I asked for "inghetata lamaie". I'm sure you can guess how I pronounced it.
Reminds me when I mixed up "kissa" (to pee) and "kyssa" (to kiss) in Sweden.
Nelu has worked with me and my (former) roomates to hone my pronounciation of this very important word.
Out of curiosity, how good *is* your Romanian? now that I'm here for the semi-long haul, I'm really cracking down and trying to become at least conversational. Are you planning on raising your kids to be bilingual? (Please please please!)
