O-Zone
A Romanian group had a top club hit this summer. I present O-Zone and "Dragostea Din Tei".
I asked my coworker to translate the title and it means "Love from some kind of tree". "Tei" is a type of tree in Romanian. It's an expression around here. She knew the Spanish word for it, "tila". So when I did a Google Image Search for "tila", I got pictures of some porn star, named, strangely enough, "Tila".

The singer sounds like that annoying guy from The Darkness. The lyrics are up there with any Aqua song, but it's happy and bouncy and fun. I have no idea what the lyrics are. I try to sing along but since online transcriptions of Romanian lack all those little (annoying) squiggles and dots which change the pronounciation, I always mispronounce everything.
At least I can look forward to more hits on this blog from publishing those lyrics.

The name of the song is "Dragostea din Tei" with an "i" at the end. The tei is the Linden tree, Tilia europaea in latin. The seeds / fruit are used for making tee. Dragoste means love. The stupidity of the title is matched only by the lyrics. For a few beers I will translate them. :) Peace.
Then there is the version done by another Romanian Pop Star, Haiducii. I saw the music videos for both versions in Germany all summer long. I think I'll have to vote for Haiducii. Anyone know who made the original?
O-Zone did the original. Then Haiducci got a hold of the song, remade it and it became a hit. When O-Zone's management found out about it, it gave them some publicity and now most stations play both songs.

Dear God, I've been looking for the lyrics with the squigglies for ever. D: ... want to sing along, but can't pronounce half the words.
Stupidity of song makes me sad... but I'm an American, and we have easy access to our ignorant bliss switch. So I can turn it on when listening to the song to just enjoy the bouncy-ness of it. Yay!
