About Me
- Name: Karla
- Location: Canada
I came to Romania straight out of university as an intern working with intercultural education. After extending my contract twice, I realised how much I love my newly adopted country and decided to stay as long as I could. "As long as I could" turned into 361 days. I am now back in Canada, but am hoping to revive this blog to coincide with my new job.

Hi Karla! :)
That is cool :) How are you? Still homesick? I can totally believe you and I feel your pain with the lack of familiar food over there. This site is perfect for keeping track of all the little cultural differences like food. I've always thought that I was insane for writing down what made each cab ride in Hong Kong an "adventure" or how no one in China seemed to know what a dill pickle was, or even the differences between all the chain stores that you can find overseas. Example: the MacDonalds in the Philippines serve rice with their combos as well as 'McSpaghetti' (trust me, when it came and still comes to MacDonalds, I am an observer of these trends, not a consumer...icky) And Happy Canada day to you! :) It sounds like you did a great job with the little Canadian feast..mine probably would have been some culinary delight like a big pile of poutine! :P Anyways, hope that you're well and hope to hear from you soon!

Hey!
I was thinking about you this morning! We definitely need to get together when I come back. I'm sure I'll be in Hali soon enough!
Feast is tomorrow evening. I actually *did* bring "poutine sauce" with me but gave it all to Mr. Romania before I left for Turkey.
The party is tomorrow at 18:00. Going to make caesar salad, baked nachos, nachos and dip and have macaroons for dessert. I can't make anything that needs to be baked. I also wanted to make standard "picnic" fare.
Hahah...McSpaghetti?!? That's crazy enough to be believed. We have McPork here but no one believes me that we have McLobster at home.
And it's depressing to go to the store with a shopping list and find only one thing from a list of ten items in the store.
Can't wait to see you again!
